How To Determine The Wire Diameter Of A Fence

Determining the wire diameter of a fence requires measurement using measuring tools, checking product parameters, or comparing with similar products. Wire diameter (i.e., the diameter of the steel wire) is a core indicator determining the impact resistance and lifespan of the fence.

Direct Measurement Using Professional Tools
The most accurate method is to measure the wire diameter using calipers or a micrometer:

Randomly select 3-5 wires from an uninstalled fence panel and measure their diameter; Take the average value to avoid misjudgment due to local negative tolerances; National standards require the wire diameter error to be controlled within ±0.1mm. For example, if the nominal diameter is Φ4.0mm, the actual measured diameter should not be lower than Φ3.9mm.

Checking the Technical Parameters Provided by the Manufacturer
Reputable manufacturers will clearly indicate the wire diameter value in the product description, for example:

"Φ4.0mm low carbon cold-drawn steel wire";

or "10# steel wire (approximately 3.2mm)".

You can request the supplier to provide material certificates, test reports, or samples to verify the authenticity of the parameters. Prioritize products that specify the exact millimeter measurement and avoid vague promotional terms such as "bold" or "encrypted".
